Epoxy Garage Floor Paint

When deciding on your garage flooring, you may want to consider epoxy garage floor paint. Most of the garage flooring paints may be used to top other paints, provided they are clean and free of any contaminants. As epoxy is fairly thick, there's usually no need for colour matching or anything of the sort.

Epoxy Floor Paint and Your New Concrete

If the concrete is new, there are few set of conditions that must be observed. You can generally tell if the concrete is new by the colour. Most coatings for garage floors need at least thirty days from the time it was laid before you put down their paint.

If you are not sure, try to get in touch with the concrete coatings contractor that laid the floor. If that's not an option, you could always wait for few days from the time you first saw the floor. It will have to be prepped and cleaned no matter what is on it, even if it looks like there's nothing, so there is no harm using it for storage or cars.

Including preparation, many epoxy paint kits can take as little as three hours to apply. This is, however, better as compared to other solutions for garage floors. Also, this estimate is for a normal garage. If your garage is quite large, then expect the process to take longer.

Epoxy garage floors coating comes out very nicely when done correctly. Therefore, it becomes very important to choose the right coating provider.

How to Redo Your Garage Floor Coatings and When to Hire a Contractor

Epoxy paint application provides an easy improvement to your garage floor and driveway. Not only is epoxy stain-resistant and anti-skid but it is also easy to apply. However, applying epoxy paint in Arizona might be a little tricky because you have to account for the hot climate in order to prevent the hot tires from lifting the paint off the floor.

When done correctly, epoxy stands out among garage floor coatings. For best results, follow the steps outlined below:

1. Prep the garage

If you do not adequately prepare prior to your epoxy installation, the coating might chip or peel off almost as soon as it dries. Start by clearing all objects from the garage and then thoroughly sweeping it clean. You can use a leaf blower in order to get rid of any hidden dirt. Make use of a scrub brush and a heavy-duty degreaser to clean any gas and oil stains from the concrete. You should then carefully examine your floor for any chips on the concrete floor. Applying garage floor coatings on a chipped floor makes the coating less durable.

Once you are sure the floor is clean, apply concrete etch and citric acid in order to make tiny grooves in the concrete. This will help the epoxy to stick. Muriatic acid may also be used but you must be extremely careful because it is highly corrosive.

2. Apply your epoxy

Mix the two epoxy chemicals and apply the mixture on your floor. You may begin with trim areas using a two-inch brush and then cover the rest of the floor with a standard paint roller. A roller extender may come in handy at this stage. Please note that paint chips should be tossed onto the epoxy after it has been applied and not mixed in the can.

3. Allow it to dry

In Arizona weather, the epoxy should dry completely in a couple of hours but as a rule of thumb, leave it undisturbed for a night before you can attempt walking on it. Some epoxy floors might require more time to dry so it is best to refer to the manufacturer instructions.

For best results, avoid applying garage floor coatings on windy days or you will get leaves, twigs and other contaminants on your floor. Better still, hire a concrete coatings contractor from Dreamcoat Flooring, who are the Arizona experts in garage floor coatings.
